Sp58E Are We Alone in the Universe? (Zoom; OLLI @ U of A)

Zoom | Available (Membership Required)

Recently President Obama said aliens are real, i.e., we are not alone. This is also the belief of many in the scientific community and the general public. But what is the evidence supporting this belief? In this class we will examine this evidence. We will look at the scientific evidence and the anecdotal evidence. As has been said: We will keep an open mind, but not so open that our brains fall out.

  • Carl DeVito’s Ph.D. is in mathematics, and he has co-authored research papers in physics, astronomy and planetary sciences. His last two books have dealt with the search for extra-terrestrial intelligence and the scientific efforts currently aimed at finding this intelligence. In his classes he will present unusual, even “way out”, topics, but he always stresses that belief must be based on hard evidence not just speculation.
