[NEW COURSE] A Midwife’s Tale won the Pulitzer Prize for History (1991). Historian Laurel Thatcher Ulrich found an ignored diary in a research library and from it created the story of Martha Ballard, a midwife in Hallowell, Maine, whose wide range of experience, family life, professional and personal work, and life events still resonate with modern readers. In this course we’ll read the book in small chunks and emphasize discussion.

Lisa Jadwin, Ph.D. (English, Princeton University), has 35 years of teaching experience, has won teaching awards, and has taught college-level courses on detective fiction for more than two decades. She is a retired professor from St. John Fisher University.
