F05M Romantic Period Composers: Under the Influence (Zoom)

Zoom | Available (Membership Required)

[NEW COURSE] Nationalist composers of the Late Romantic period such as Dvorák and Mussorgsky celebrated their cultural identities by drawing on the folk songs, dances, and local legends of their home countries. This course explores the relationship between Romantic-era composers and the Nationalist composers they influenced using musical examples to trace those connections. Some composers belong to both traditions, and we’ll examine how that dual identity shaped their approach to composition. As with all of this leader’s courses, the sessions are driven by audience interest and follow a “non-linear” approach, in this case, by identifying and following the threads that connect ideas across both eras. Course Website: https://www.youtube.com/@alanmathias6393 Audio/Visual, Discussion, Lecture
