In 1960 Senator John F. Kennedy challenged the students at the University of Michigan to give two years to help people in countries of the developing world. Today there are more than 7,500 Peace Corps volunteers, five percent of whom are aged 50 or older who “Hear the call”. Many seasoned adults find their age to be an asset, as people of developing nations respect and appreciate the decades of work and wisdom older volunteers bring to their communities. Quinn Walker, the Peace Corps recruiter for Oklahoma and Arkansas, will present the history and legacy of the Peace Corps as well as the current state of the program. He will share the application process and how volunteers make a difference in communities in need, gain cross-cultural skills and bring back home a global perspective to share with others.
