Be safer in your home! One in four older adults fall each year and every 19 minutes an older adult dies from a fall (National Council on Aging statistics). Older adults currently make up 15% of the population but represent 40% of all fire deaths (U.S. Fire Administration statistics). And did you know that mobile phones do not indicate for 911 operators where you are in case of emergency? If you call 911 but cannot speak, help may be delayed. And even a landline can be linked to critical information that could save your life. This session presents a demonstration of how to use your phone number to aid police, fire and rescue when you are in an emergency situation, covers fire safety and fire prevention resources available along with fall prevention. If you want to be safer at home, this session is for you! Sponsored by Seniors and Law Enforcement Together (SALT).

  • Captain Jeremy Ashley, a representative of SALT will facilitate this class.
  • Though this class is FREE and open to the public, registration is still required.

"Seniors and Law Enforcement Together (SALT) of WashingtonCounty promotes safety among older adults and affects change that can reduce the fear of crime by providing programing and resources implemented in the community to""educate, assist and support older adults. Our programs provide opportunities to bring older adults and law enforcement together, and help senior citizens protect themselves in their communities."
