Raven Cook, history and political science advanced studies professional, will offer an Intro to African American Art program where she will provide a weekly journey through African American History using art as a guide. By considering material and non-material culture, participants will consider how art can be used as a tool of liberation.

The course will follow the text provided by Art Historian Lisa Farrington titled African- American Art: A Visual and Cultural History.

Raven Cook is committed to exploring the stories of Black Americans through visual and material culture. With advanced studies in history and political science, and an extensive professional background in museum education and community engagement, Miss Cook seeks to align the rich, collectivist traditions seen in the art created by Black Americans to the unique history of people of African descent in the United States. Miss Cook currently works in the field of education and research and is committed to identifying and developing compelling strategies to discuss complex histories.
