The Historic Spout Spring Neighborhood
Lecture (1 session) | Available
In 2023 the City of Fayetteville was approached with a proposal to create a local historic district in the Spout Spring Neighborhood, where many Black families settled after the Civil War, and which became a vibrant hub of the Black community in Fayetteville. Learn about the background of the area and the urgent need to protect these important historical landmarks. Join Britin Bostick, City of Fayetteville’s Long Range Planning/Special Projects Manager, as she walks you through the process of creating a historic district, the petitioning and concerns of the residents, the research involved, and what a potential district would look like once established. Hear about the work with the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program and community advocates to designate this district as an important historic community.
This class will meet in person at the OLLI offices, located at 481 S. Shiloh Drive, Fayetteville, AR 72704. Please read your class reminder email for the exact room location.

Britin Bostick
Britin Bostick holds a Master of Science in Community and Regional Planning and Master of Public Affairs from the
University of Texas at Austin. Although she did not start in historic preservation, her career shift into city planning came
shortly after she fell in love with old buildings and the way historic sites connect us to our roots. Britin has managed the
City of Fayetteville's Long Range Planning Division (which includes historic preservation!) since 2022. Britin Bostick, AICP has worked in planning, design and construction for two decades and specializes in historic preservation. She is the staff support to both of the City of Fayetteville's historic commissions and leads historic preservation programs for the city. Although she began her design and construction career with large new projects, now works with large collections of historic properties as a planner.
