Saint Nicholas: The Man, The Myth, The Legend
Class | Available
Everybody knows the story of Santa Claus, the red-suited figure who lives at the North Pole and brings us gifts for Christmas. But is there any historical evidence about the real man on which this jolly old character is based? Join us at Saint Nicholas Orthodox Church (3171 S. 48th Street in Springdale) as we present a documentary and discussion on the important story of Saint Nicholas, a third-century Christian bishop, who became a patron of churches, countries, children, and sailors throughout the world. He is beloved by all Christians: Orthodox, Catholic, and Protestant. But what do we really know about St. Nicholas? What is considered myth or legend? We will present the portrait of a courageous man of God and Christian leader who stood for truth and profoundly impacted the culture in which he lived.
After class, the St. Nicholas Orthodox Church congregation will offer a delicious Mediterranean meal for our participants.
