Gardening 101

Class | Registration opens Tuesday, August 19, 2025 10:00 AM

Interested in growing your own vegetables and herbs, but short on space? Curious about organic gardening but unsure where to begin? Gardening 101 provides a practical introduction to starting your own garden, offering guidance on planning and layout, utilizing containers and raised beds, and understanding the fundamental principles of organic gardening.

Led by Colin Massey, Washington County Extension Agent with the UA System Division of Agriculture Cooperative Extension Service, this session will walk you through the essentials of container and raised bed gardening. Learn the advantages and disadvantages of each method, key considerations for success, and how to decide if a raised bed setup is right for you. Massey will also explain the differences between traditional in-ground and raised bed gardens, share design and maintenance tips, and cover foundational home gardening practices.

  • This program will meet in person at Washington County Extension Office, located at 2536 N McConnell Ave, Fayetteville, AR 72704. Please read your class reminder email for the exact room location.

Class changes occasionally happen, please watch for (and read) announcements or emails from OLLI regarding your class.
