From its Delta Blues roots to the electrifying sounds of Memphis, this music-filled program will trace the evolution of one of America’s most influential genres. Join Dr. Gary Barrow, retired music professor from Arkansas Tech University, as he guides you through the early days of Rock and Roll with engaging stories, audio recordings, and lively video clips. You’ll hear the powerful voices and rhythms of legendary artists like Elvis Presley, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Chuck Berry, and more— many with deep roots in Arkansas and the South.

Gary Barrow
Dr. Barrow was on the faculty at Arkansas Tech University for 35 years where he taught applied trumpet and horn, the history of American music, and conducted the University Brass Choir. Prior to arriving in Arkansas, he taught at Colorado State University-Pueblo. His trumpet performance experience includes time with the United States Army Band (Pershing’s Own) in Washington, D.C., the Colorado Springs Symphony, the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, and the University of Illinois Faculty Brass Quintet.
