The Civil War In Your Backyard: Prairie Grove Battlefield State Park Tour

Tours & Day Trips | Registration opens Tuesday, August 19, 2025 10:00 AM

Prairie Grove State Park focuses on the Battle of Prairie Grove and the effects of the Civil War in northwest Arkansas. The park covers the history of the Prairie Grove Campaign and how the battlefield became a state park.

Join Mattison Griffin, Park Interpreter, for a guided tour to learn about how the troops ended up on a two-mile ridge south of the Illinois River and what happened on these grounds on December 7, 1862. Participants will also hear the stories of the historic buildings that were relocated to the grounds in the late 1950s. We will be walking on paved walking trails and grass. Closed-toe shoes are recommended.
