Nazi Art Looting & The Monuments Men

Class | Available

This program examines Nazi art looting during World War II and explores the reasons behind the Nazis’ deep investment in art pillaging. Beginning in the 1930s, instructor Katlyn Rozovics will explain how Nazi ideology viewed art and the role culture played in their political agenda. As the program moves into the war years, participants will explore the looting of museums, estates, and private homes across Germany, France, and Italy.

Ms. Rozovics will also cover the efforts of the Monuments Men and their allies, who worked to protect and recover stolen art during the conflict. In the final part of the program, participants will examine the post-war and contemporary challenges of restitution and the lasting impact of Nazi cultural crimes. The class will conclude with an open class discussion to encourage reflection and dialogue.

  • This program will meet in person at OLLI Headquarters (HQ), located at 481 S. Shiloh Drive, Fayetteville, AR 72704. Please read your class reminder email for the exact room location.
