Perilous Times: Immigration & America's Future

Class | Registration opens Tuesday, February 3, 2026 10:00 AM

During the 2024 presidential campaign, millions of voters -- fueled by fears over immigration -- rallied behind a candidate who vowed to end illegal immigration and deport millions of undocumented immigrants living in our communities. Now, well into the first year of the Trump presidency, immigration has become one of the defining and most divisive issues in American politics.

Dr. William Schwab, Ph.D., and author of Dreams Derailed, takes immigration out of the headlines and into the classroom. Here we will dissect the administration’s policies, examine the nation’s tangled immigration laws, and confront the realities of mass deportation carried out by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Beyond the law and the politics, we will ask urgent questions: How will these policies reshape the economy, divide or unite communities, and redefine America’s global image? And perhaps most importantly -- if we are a nation of immigrants, what happens to our character and our future when immigration itself is cast as the threat?
