From Jockey's to Jackpots: Exploring Oaklawn Park

Class | Registration opens Tuesday, February 3, 2026 10:00 AM

Step into the exciting world of Oaklawn, where Arkansas history and high-stakes racing come together! From its colorful early days filled with gangsters and professional baseball players, to its place today as one of America’s premier Thoroughbred racing destinations, Oaklawn’s story is as captivating as the races themselves.

In this fun and interactive session, you’ll not only explore Oaklawn’s rich history but also learn the best ways to experience the track. We’ll show you how to read a racing program, place a winning bet, and navigate the grounds for the best views and experiences. To top it off, we’ll welcome special guests who will share their personal stories and behind-the-scenes perspectives from years of racing excitement in Arkansas. Whether you’re a lifelong fan, a curious first-timer, or just love a good local story, this session promises history, humor, and a whole lot of fun!

After our day in the classroom, you are invited to join us for a day at the races. This is an optional trip to Hot Springs for a tour of the track and a day of racing fun with our picks for winners. Details about this optional opportunity will be discussed at the first session.

  • This program will meet in person at OLLI Headquarters (HQ), located at 481 S. Shiloh Drive, Fayetteville, AR 72704. Please read your class reminder email for the exact room location.
