Ozark / Arkansas Writers Book Club
Course (4+ sessions) | Registration opens Sunday, August 16, 2026 2:00 PM
Book Club participants will explore Arkansas and the Ozarks through four well-written books by Arkansas authors. Sept.2 - Backing Down the Protestant Trail by Harris Taylor; Oct .7 - Though Silent They Speak, by Abby Burnett; Nov.4 - Don't Cry for Me by Daniel Black; Dec.2 - Cave Mountain by Benjamin Hale.
Participants are expected to acquire their own books and read them before each meeting. Pearl’s Books in downtown Fayetteville offers a 20% discount when participants mention the OLLI Book Club.
The class meets the first Wednesday of each month.

This program will meet in person at OLLI Headquarters (HQ), located at 481 S. Shiloh Drive, Fayetteville, AR 72704. Please read your class reminder email for the exact room location.

Marilyn Heifner
Marilyn Heifner is a former librarian, teacher, and lifelong reader with a deep love for Fayetteville and Arkansas. Her career includes serving as the Mayor of Fayetteville and Executive Director of the Fayetteville Advertising and Promotion Commission, where she worked for 22 years. Marilyn is the current president of both the Fayetteville Evergreen Cemetery Association and the Butterfield National Historic Trail Association. A passionate advocate for preserving local history, she founded the Arkansas Air Museum to safeguard aviation history in Northwest Arkansas. In 2023, she was honored with the Washington County Distinguished Citizen Award and the City of Fayetteville Historic Preservation Award. As president of the Evergreen Cemetery Board, she has researched the lives of those buried there, uncovering stories that reflect Fayetteville's rich history.
Marilyn Heifner is retired executive director of Fayetteville Advertising and Promotion Commission, former Mayor, former librarian with a lifelong love of reading and Arkansas.
