Kamikaze or "Divine Wind Special Attack Unit" aka "Body Crashing" tactics were deployed by the Empire of Japan beginning in late1944 through the end of the war in the Pacific in August 1945. This strategy was first adopted by individual acts and eventually endorsed by the Japanese High Command through massive air attacks. This strategy, based on an ancient legend, involved suicide attacks on the U.S. Fleet by manned airplanes, but also included several other manned and unmanned methods.
