702 Cumberland County Playhouse - The Buddy Holly Story
Excursions & Activities | This program is completed
We will enjoy a great lunch at the Homestead Harvest Restaurant in Cumberland Mountain State Park and a toe-tapping, hand-clapping extravaganza at the Cumberland County Playhouse.
We will start our day with a buffet lunch at the Homestead Harvest Restaurant in the state park where we can also take in the beautiful scenery, including Byrd Lake Bridge and Dam, the most recognized feature of the park. The dam with seven large arches built of crab orchard stone was begun in 1934 and was the largest masonry project ever built by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). After lunch, we will board our bus and head over to the Mainstage Theater at Cumberland County Playhouse.
Before the Beatles and the Rolling Stones ever played a note, popular music was forever changed by a bespectacled kid from Lubbock, Texas – Buddy Holly! Experience the true story of Holly’s rise to fame, starting with “That’ll be the Day” hitting the airwaves in 1957 that launched his short, but spectacular career. With over a dozen of Holly’s hits brought to life by performers playing their own instruments, The Buddy Holly Story celebrates the legend who changed the face of Rock & Roll forever.
Our bus will leave RSCC’s flagpole promptly at 12:10 p.m., returning at approximately 7:30 p.m. Participants used to an early dinner might want to bring along a non-perishable snack for the ride home.
