102 Exploring the Oak Ridge Art Center Permanent Collection
Art, Culture, Music, Tra | Registration opens 4/15/25 9:00 AM EDT
Did you know there is a world class collection of art right here in Oak Ridge? You may be surprised to find out what resides in our vaults! From European masters to 4000-year-old carvings of long-lost cultures to contemporary works by local celebrities, the Art Center’s collection spans an incredible range of pedigrees and tastes. Learn about the process of acquiring and curating such treasures, while learning some tips and tricks to look for when building your own collection. We will discuss how factors such as display, space limitations, lack of proper framing and condition, or even cultural taboos prevent many works in collections from seeing the light of day – ours included. We will spend some time with a few of our lesser-known works and discuss efforts to bring them into the public’s view. This is a rare opportunity to see behind the scenes of a private art collection.
