What happened after the Manhattan Project? Answer: The Cold War. What was that “war” actually? First, the use of enormously powerful nuclear weapons ended World War II. Second, technological development of far more powerful weapons created by the US and USSR led to decades of ideological struggles with threats of nuclear war. What were those weapons and delivery systems?

Alex Gabbard went off to college to study mechanical engineering and was drafted into the Vietnam conflict. After returning to college, he studied atomic physics and had a career doing research in civilian applications of energy at ORNL. He is now retired and enjoys restoring old cars and writing.
