306 The Civil War in Loudon County
History | Registration opens 12/2/25 9:00 AM EST
In January 1860, 20-year-old Lizzie Anderson began writing a diary about the everyday events in her community of Hackberry Bend, Roane County, East Tennessee having no idea that a war would quite literally show up on her doorstep just a few years later. That community would later disappear and the area where it was would be absorbed into the new county of Loudon, which was created in 1870 from parts of Roane, Monroe, and Blount County. In this class, we will explore the firsthand account of day-to-day life during the Civil War in Roane/Loudon County through Lizzie’s diary based on the book Cabbages and Caissons, authored by Brewster.
