304 Archaeological Discovery of the Remains of King Richard III of England
History | Available (Membership Required)
This presentation will tell the story of the search for the bodily remains of Richard III of England. Richard III (1452-1483) was the last king in the long line of Plantagenets who held the throne of England for over 300 years. King Richard’s death on the battlefield at Bosworth, at the hands of the forces of Henry Tudor, brought an end to his very short reign and heralded the start of the Tudor age. Made infamous by the play Shakespeare wrote about him and the charges of infanticide that were leveled against him, King Richard III’s true story is yet to be fully understood. In this presentation you will be introduced to an alternate view of King Richard III. This class will take you through the reasons for the search for his mortal remains, who lead the charge, and the dramatic results. Having attended King Richard’s reinternment services in Leicester, England in 2015, Sally can provide a very ‘up close and personal’ perspective on this historic event, sharing with her students her behind-the-scenes photos.
