Have you ever had an issue that you needed assistance with from city government, but you were uncertain as to which office to call? Have you ever wondered about how local government functions and what services are provided? This course will provide basic information as to how Oak Ridge government is organized and the functions of each of the city’s departments. This course will present an opportunity for participants to understand some of the issues our municipal government has authority to resolve and some that it does not. This course is designed to provide general information about Oak Ridge City Government. Participants that need assistance with issues will be provided with contact information for the appropriate city department that deals with that issue.

Beth Hickman

Beth Hickman has served as the City Clerk for the City of Oak Ridge since February 2016. She previously served as a faculty assistant at Vanderbilt Law School and as a Field Representative for former Congressman Lincoln Davis. She received a Bachelor’s degree in political science from Vanderbilt University and a Master’s in public administration from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. She currently serves as President of the Tennessee Association of Parliamentarians and is a member of the Emory Valley Center Foundation Board and Altrusa International of Oak Ridge. She obtained her municipal clerk certification from the State of Tennessee in 2017, and a Master Municipal Clerk designation through the International Institute of Municipal Clerks in 2026.
