253 CommUnity Learning Systems Integration

Community & Government | Registration opens 8/4/26 9:00 AM EDT

How can we as Oak Ridgers build an even stronger learning community, consistent with our 50th anniversary theme, “Born of War, Living for Peace, Growing through Science”?

Each session will have a primary focus and will include an introduction, small group interaction, plus time for sharing and aggregating insights.

Session 1: What do class participants most need and want to learn? What obstacles are in their way?

Session 2: What learning support already exists (family, neighborhoods, organizations, institutions)? What is missing?

Session 3: What external resources, associations and models could strengthen our community learning capacity?

Session 4: Lessons learned, personal next steps, and consideration of an ongoing CommUnity Learning Collaborative

David Sperry

David Sperry chose to move to Oak Ridge in 1996 for the community. Prior to serving 11 years as a direct support professional with Emory Valley Center, he was a computer-aided process planning trainer for Hughes Aircraft Company. David also served as community development coordinator for the Baha’is of the United States and 4 ½ years at the Baha’i World Centre in Haifa, Israel. There he became more familiar with learning and community development processes which inspired the design of this class.
